AFIT - AFIT is our Angler Family Involvement Team. Please consider becoming a part of this amazing team!
Anglers in Action - Once a month, students will get to travel to a designated spot around school to participate in clubs. There are many clubs that students will get to choose from based on their interests. This is part of our "Sharpen the Saw" habit.
Attendance - It is important to have your student at school on time everyday because our school day starts immediately when the bell rings! The first bell rings at 7:25 am, and the tardy bell rings at 7:30 am.
A.R. - Students will set quarterly A.R. goals for themselves. After they finish reading a book, they can take a test on the book, and they can receive a certain number of points. If they meet their goal by the end of the nine weeks, they will get an invite to the VIP A.R. Party.
A.R. lanyards and pins will also be earned throughout the year.
B
Behavior Management - In our classroom, we will be promoting positive behaviors. To do so, we will be using Classroom Dojo. Classroom Dojo will allow you to view daily behaviors, as well as receive updates and information from Mrs. Torres!
Birthdays - We love celebrating birthdays! Birthday treats are welcomed, but students will only be allowed to eat them during lunch time. You may drop off treats at the beginning of the school day for me to take to lunch, or you may join us during lunch time to pass them out.

Communication - Communication between home and school is a vital component to a happy classroom and a happy student. Together, we will work together to provide the best for your child. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to share. You can reach me best through Class Dojo.

Dismissal - Students are dismissed at 2:00 pm. If your child will be getting home a different way than usual, please contact the school office.

Family - In our classroom, we are family. We will work together to cultivate an atmosphere of respect and friendliness. We will learn, share, discover, and grow together!
Field Trips - 3rd grade will have several fun trips this year. More information will be discussed and handed out at a later date!

Grades - Formative grades and summative grades will be posted in FOCUS. Formative grades will be weighted as 0% in the grade book.

Homework - Weekly homework packets will be sent home. Students will not be penalized for not doing them, but the packet does provide additional practice with the skills taught in class. Students are also encouraged to study math facts daily.
I
Illness - If your child is ill, please remember to contact the school office so that it will be an excused absence! If make up work is needed, please dojo me, and I will get it together by the end of the school day.

Jobs/Roles - Students will be assigned classroom leadership jobs every quarter. Each student will be responsible for completing that job daily. We will work as a team to keep our classroom organized!
K
Kindness - A kind attitude is very important to have. It is necessary that all students portray kindness in and out of the classroom. We will be working on how to speak to others, manners, and how to deal with disagreements.
L
Leader in Me - Students will practice the 7 Habits of the Leader in Me program on a daily basis. Please discuss these habits at home with your child, and encourage them with their WIGS (wildly important goals). Students will keep up with their WIGS at school through the use of Leadership Notebooks.
Library - Our class will visit the library twice a month. If your student brings home library books, please make sure they are responsible for them! Lost books will have to be paid for!
Lunch - Our lunch will be from 10:15 - 10:45 am. (A healthy afternoon snack may be brought it, but will not be provided.)
M
Math - Students will work through the Eureka curriculum for math. Mastery of addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts is a big necessity for success. Please practice basic facts nightly.
Money - When sending money to school, please make sure it is in a safe spot. Remind students that money should stay in backpacks or pockets until it is needed. Students should not be placing money inside of their desks. Money for school activities should be given to the teacher when the student's arrive for the day. A receipt will be sent home for amounts that are $10 or more.

News - All classroom news will be posted to Class Dojo. Please keep an eye on our Class Story. This is where I will update you on class/school events, homework, etc.

Organization - It is very important that students learn organization skills now. At the beginning of the year, help your student keep their red take home folder and library books nice and neat. All classroom work that is sent home should be removed from the folder that night.
P
Parties - We will have a Christmas Party and End of the Year Party that parents will be able to attend. Additional mini celebrations will occur throughout the year for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day, and the 100th day of school!
Pictures - I love taking pictures of the students during special activities, holidays, fun events, and field trips. Pictures will only be used for the yearbook and our Class Dojo page. If you would not like your child to participate in classroom pictures, please let me know!
Phones - Phones may only be used for educational purposes within the classroom. Unless I have a certain project or activity planned, phones must stay inside student backpacks. Students are not allowed to text or take calls during the school day.

Questions - If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask! I am always able to respond to Dojo or email quickly.

Recess - We will have a 20 minute recess daily.
Retests - Retests in ELA will occur on future module assessments when specific standards are retaught and practiced.

Snacks - Since our lunch is early in the day, students may bring an afternoon snack to eat during math centers. Students may bring something small and healthy to eat during work time. (Please no chips, soda, Capri suns, candy, etc. ) Water bottles can be brought to school daily.
Special Area - Students will rotate between Art, Music, and PE. Help remind students to wear closed toed shoes (tennis shoes are best) for PE days.

Tardies/Check Outs - Learning begins promptly at 7:30 and ends at 2:00 pm. Please try your best to have your student at school on time, all day, every day! :)
Toys - Toys are not allowed in the classroom. If students bring toys for after school activities, the toys must stay in the backpack for the entire school day. Toys are not needed for recess or Fun Friday.

Unique - Each student is unique! Differentiation, modifications, and accommodations will occur to meet each students' unique needs in the classroom. This means that not everyone will receive the same thing.
V
Volunteers - Volunteers are always appreciated! There will be many volunteer opportunities throughout the year in and out of the classroom. Please make sure you have filled out a volunteer form and have had it notarized before turning it in to the front office.

Water Bottles - Students are welcome to bring a water bottle to place on their desk throughout the day, as long as it does not cause any distractions.
Website - Please visit the classroom website often. This is a great resources for parents and students. Weekly spelling words will be posted, along with my Teacher Tube videos.
WIN Time - Students will have 30 minutes of WIN (What I Need) Time daily. This time is used for intervention and enrichment. MTSS and ESE interventions will occur at this time.
Wish List - A classroom wish list will be sent home periodically as materials run short. We are always in need of pre-sharpened pencils, Clorox Wipes, and Lysol!

Zzzzz - Please make sure your child has enough sleep every night! A sleepy child simply does not have the capability to pay attention in class, learn and retain knowledge, or work to the best of their ability.
